Even established companies need to reinvent themselves and their products to survive, and so look to recruit staff with an innovative approach to developing new business opportunities. It is in the nature of entrepreneurs to challenge, and this programme is in itself a challenge to students to think, innovate and act beyond traditional boundaries of academic disciplines. This BSc programme, offered jointly by Engineering and Management, aims to create entrepreneurs and managers and provide them with the skills to prosper in a high technology business environment.

You will be taught the theory of entrepreneurship, business management, IT and technology against a background of innovation and business enterprise. These three core areas are integrated by running projects, alongside studying and working with students on our engineering programmes. You will be encouraged to initiate business ideas during the programme, and we even have funding available and our own Technology Centre on our Research Park to help new business ventures to develop.

Upon graduation you will have both knowledge of technical and business issues plus a range of supporting transferable skills. You will be ideally placed to interface between engineers, IT specialists and venture capitalists, being able to judge what is possible technologically and identifying new opportunities whilst managing and leading teams of technological experts.

Welcome to the innovative future for business entrepreneurs.

A message from the course leader...

Welcome to the Technology Entrepreneurship website!

This site aims to support the BSc in Technology Entrepreneurship degree at the University of Surrey by introducing the topic itself and the degree to you. The degree is somewhat different from “traditional” degrees, in that is provides a practical format to integrate the dual passions of technology and innovation with entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial drive. The philosophy of the degree is to allow students to explore and develop their interests to a much higher extend than others – for instance, this website is the work of one of the students on the programme.

The site also offers more detailed descriptions of the degree programme, plus some of the extra activities that the programme has on officer, such as details on the Investment Club, announcements for presentations or extra seminars and so on. It will be regularly updated and revised, so please leave your comments or email me directly with any comments, suggestions or ideas about the programme or the website: W.Wehrmeyer@surrey.ac.uk
