The handbag which can charge your mobile

Just found this article on the telegraph website, reporting the innovation of a handbag that charges the laptop inside. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/2503135/The-handbag-which-can-charge-your-mobile.html)

Actually, one of the student projects in the Final Year was precisely this, and the prototype worked rather well as well. From memory, there was also a business plan that came alongside the project.

Just claiming a blatant "First" for TE students...

Degree Results

The Degree Results have now been published just outside the TSO Room.

Congratulations to all, you have achieved the end of your first academic career, and I really hope you have done so with the degree grade (First, Upper Second etc) which you feel you have deserved or earned.

Overall, the cohort gained one ordinary degree, 1 "Third", 7 "2.2", 20 "2.1" and 4 "Firsts". Very impressive, especially as the majority of students will have a much easier route towards a Masters or a PhD degree in the future, should you wish to do so. Yes, Entrepreneurs rarely enter academia, but you'll never know.

The Degree Ceremony will take place on 17 June, no doubt we'll meet there, probably dressed up with proud parents / relatives / friends alongside to cheer.

Best!

Walter

The New Website!

Hi and welcome to the new TE website.

This site aims to both attract new students to the course and support current students. We envisage the 'students' area of the site being a one-stop shop for all the information current students will need. You can access your email directly from there, read the latest news from your lecturers, and access sites relevant to your degree. Soon, we will publish social photos on the site - be prepared! Lecturers are being encouraged to post important news and information here, as well as e-mailing you - making this the ideal place to make sure you're up to date on what is happening on planet TE.

This area is currently a framework for what is to come - please, if you have any ideas or recommendations for YOUR area of the site, get in touch and let me know.

I'm keen to hear from other people interested in helping with the upkeep of the site, and maybe other projects. If you do have an interest in web development, design etc. or want to learn, please drop me a line. My e-mail is th00004@surrey.ac.uk.

Meanwhile, enjoy the new site and keep checking back here regularly.

Tom

P.S. People seem to be asking how this site was built. I hope this helps. People of a nervous disposition, look away now:

The site was built in good old Notepad and Adobe Dreamweaver. All imagery was created in Abobe Photoshop and Illustrator. It uses valid XHTML and CSS (the badges at the bottom of the page confirm this), meaning the site is accessible to people with certain disabilities, and is good practice anyway. The dynamic content (stuff that changes, i.e this page) is managed using a custom built PHP system.

I am the copyright owner of the website, so please don't attempt to copy any of the source code. Instead, if you're interested in helping me, e-mail me at th00004@surrey.ac.uk
